Shorthorn Cattle
The shorthorn cattle is a large hoofed mammal, with a black colored coat. It has a thick, muscular body that people harvest for meat. Males grow larger than females, with the average male, or bull, weighing about 1,800 lbs. and the average female, or cow, weighing about 1,200 lbs.

Shorthorn Cattle
The breed developed from Teeswater and Durham cattle found originally in the North East of England. In the late eighteenth century, the Colling brothers, Charles and Robert, started to improve the Durham cattle using the selective breeding techniques that Robert Bakewell had used successfully on Longhorn cattle.
Their longevity is legendary with some being in production at 20 years of age versus a lifespan of 4-5 years for most modern dairy cows. Docility has also been a trademark of Heritage Milking Shorthorns.

The maternal value of Shorthorn genetics has always been one of its strongest traits. Females are highly fertile while the bulls are active, aggressive breeders, combining a high conception rate with minimum maintenance. Most heifers reach puberty by 360 days. The Beef Shorthorn comes in a variety of colours, including white and red roan.
